Land Stewardship Program is sponsored by

Dr. Richard Teschner Land Stewardship Program

The Dr. Richard Teschner Land Stewardship Program began in 2005 when the Wakeem/Teschner Naure Preserve was created. Dr. Teschner has made a significant impact on long-term health, sustainability, and open spaces from the Castner Range National Monument, the Knapp Land Nature Preserve and the Franklin Mountains State Park Visitor Center, and he continues his impact today. Dr Teschner is sponsoring The Frontera Land Alliance (Frontera) Land Stewardship Program October 1, 2026, to Sep 30, 2027. His support directly impacts water conservation, erosion control, native habitat restoration, and trail improvement efforts at area nature preserves that Frontera manages.

The impact being made

1.     By implementing effective water conservation practices, the program helps protect valuable natural resources while improving ecosystem resilience during periods of drought and changing environmental conditions. Erosion management initiatives have stabilized vulnerable areas, reduced soil loss, protected water quality, and preserved the integrity of the landscape for future generations.

2.     A strong emphasis on native plant restoration has enhanced biodiversity, supported pollinators and wildlife, and reestablished native vegetation to disturbed areas. These efforts help reduce erosion, provide wildlife habitat and shelter, and provide food.

3.     The program's trail management has increased to ensure that the trails are safe, and the terms of the conservation easement are being followed. Frontera manages over 16 miles of public natural areas. The natural open areas help visitors connect with and appreciate their Chihuahuan Desert. Well-designed and maintained trails also minimize environmental impacts by directing foot traffic away from sensitive habitats and erosion-prone areas.

Frontera is honored to recognize Dr. Richard Teschner for his leadership and generosity as a valued champion of conservation and stewardship.
